SPACE

My mum and dad had a small black and white television in the front room and I remember watching the very moment Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon! I’m so impressed by one of young presenters, whose performance is astronomical!

Thanks go to Eva’s parents for giving us permission to post this video.

New Home Learning – 6.7.20

Hello Everybody!

This week in Home Learning (Summer 2, Week 6) we have mental maths and measurement and there is the usual SPaG for you to complete. Our new creative plan is all about the wonder and excitement of Festivals and will last for two weeks.

Each class has a letter from their new class teacher as well as any transition information that you might need. If you have any questions, problems with our resources or work to send us,  then please email us via our home learning email address below.

Free access to Nessy will end on July 20th. It’s been amazing to have this resource for free during this time and we would like to send Nessy a big thank you. Children who were using Nessy before this time will be re-added.

This email account is monitored regularly and any emails will be replied to by one of our home learning team.

Outer Space in School, and a Lovely Story from Home

Our creative plan at the moment is about ‘Outer Space.’ There has been some lovely art work created by children in school for this theme. Here are a few images of it. Well done everybody!

There has also been a lovely story sent in by EP. It’s called, ‘The Boat That Goes Nowhere’ and is a very lovely read indeed. Well done!

Here it is…enjoy 🙂

The Boat That Goes Nowhere

Free Reading!

My name is Leah and I am a librarian with Kirklees Libraries, who have been working hard throughout the lockdown period in order to extend our current e-book and audio e-book range and we would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about our new homework collection available to borrow for free:

Kirklees libraries have continued to increase the range and quality of their free e-book and e-audiobook service and now offer an extensive collection of homework topics to children and families.  These are free to borrow and open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Kirklees – all they need is a Kirklees library card.

Our free e-book service https://kirklees.overdrive.com/ can help to support children with reading at home and the wide range of topics available can help with children’s learning and ability to complete homework topics around history, science, the environment, coding, sport and much more.  We understand that not all families have access to wi-fi or Internet enabled devices, but for those who do then using Overdrive through the free, user-friendly Libby app can help to reduce the number of physical resources travelling between home and school.

We have created videos showing how to set-up an e-book account, plus the library team are available by phone, e-mail and social media to help.  For those who don’t have a library card, these can be set up online, which allows borrowers to start reading straightaway. You can view these and join the library at http://www.kirkleeslibraries.co.uk/resources/

If you need more information about this free e-book and e-audiobook service, please get in touch with frontline.services@kirklees.gov.uk .

Home Learning – Science Week 5

Today we are publishing the next set of science for you to learn at home. Mostly, each class has a video to watch and an activity. If the activity isn’t on a separate sheet, then please pause the video when you get to the activity page within the video. There are also many activities set on Purplemash for you to do.

There is no science set for Y6 this week because there was quite a lot published last week for you.

If you have any queries, or would like to send us any of your work, then please use our email address for home learning – homelearning.holmfirthjin@kirkleeseducation.uk

Thank you.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS

During this time we realise that some families may be suffering financial difficulties. If your employment circumstances have changed in the past few weeks and you are now in receipt of certain benefits you may be entitled to claim for Free School Meals.  If you follow this link you will find a letter explaining the funding that school receive for children entitled to Free School Meals. Please be assured that there is no stigma attached to Free School Meals.
Whilst schools are closed families in receipt of Free School Meals are entitled to receive a voucher for £15 per week to help purchase weekly groceries, to ensure that no child should go hungry at this difficult time.  You will have seen the campaign to continue with the Supermarket Vouchers during the summer holidays which means that all families with eligible children will receive a voucher for £15 per child, per week whilst school is closed in the summer (£105 in total).
If you wish to check whether you are able to claim Free School Meals please log onto the Kirklees Council website by following this link

https://www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/schools/free-school-meals.aspx#

If you do qualify Kirklees will inform us and we will arrange for the vouchers to be sent to you as soon as possible.  SCHOOL HAS TO CLAIM FOR THE HOLIDAY VOUCHERS NO LATER THAN THE WEEK COMMENCING MONDAY 13 JULY SO PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU CHECK YOUR ELIGIBILITY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS YOU MAY MISS THIS DEADLINE AND THE DfE HAVE TOLD SCHOOLS THAT PAYMENTS CANNOT BE BACKDATED.

Please note that children in Reception and Years 1 & 2 currently receive Universal Free School Meals – this is a different scheme to Free School Meals – the £15 voucher is only payable to families in receipt of certain benefits and who meet the Free School Meals criteria.
In the meantime, please contact Alex Sykes in the office if you have any queries.

New Home Learning – 29.6.20

Hello Everybody!

This week in Home Learning (Summer 2, Week 5) there is a new writing booklet which is full of literacy goodies and will last for two weeks. In maths, there is still a mental maths page to do but in a change to previous weeks, the other pages are to do with shape. There is the usual SPaG for you to do and the ‘Space’ creative plan from last week was for two weeks. There will be a new creative plan next week.

All your teachers think that you have done so well with your home learning – the number of downloads from the school website is huge on days when we publish work! We know that it’s hard to keep going, especially when the weather turns warm and as we head towards the summer holidays. But, just keep on going and it will definitely help you when we can all come back to school.

We decided to make you a certificate because we are so proud of you and think that you should be very proud of yourself too. There are four different designs so you can choose the one that you like the best.

Lots of love,

All your teachers at Nabb Xx

If you would like to send us any of your work, then please use the email address below rather than our office email. Thank you.
