FREE SCHOOL MEALS

During this time we realise that some families may be suffering financial difficulties. If your employment circumstances have changed in the past few weeks and you are now in receipt of certain benefits you may be entitled to claim for Free School Meals.  If you follow this link you will find a letter explaining the funding that school receive for children entitled to Free School Meals. Please be assured that there is no stigma attached to Free School Meals.
Whilst schools are closed families in receipt of Free School Meals are entitled to receive a voucher for £15 per week to help purchase weekly groceries, to ensure that no child should go hungry at this difficult time.  You will have seen the campaign to continue with the Supermarket Vouchers during the summer holidays which means that all families with eligible children will receive a voucher for £15 per child, per week whilst school is closed in the summer (£105 in total).
If you wish to check whether you are able to claim Free School Meals please log onto the Kirklees Council website by following this link

https://www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/schools/free-school-meals.aspx#

If you do qualify Kirklees will inform us and we will arrange for the vouchers to be sent to you as soon as possible.  SCHOOL HAS TO CLAIM FOR THE HOLIDAY VOUCHERS NO LATER THAN THE WEEK COMMENCING MONDAY 13 JULY SO PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU CHECK YOUR ELIGIBILITY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS YOU MAY MISS THIS DEADLINE AND THE DfE HAVE TOLD SCHOOLS THAT PAYMENTS CANNOT BE BACKDATED.

Please note that children in Reception and Years 1 & 2 currently receive Universal Free School Meals – this is a different scheme to Free School Meals – the £15 voucher is only payable to families in receipt of certain benefits and who meet the Free School Meals criteria.
In the meantime, please contact Alex Sykes in the office if you have any queries.
